Tom Stone head TT

Latest Look Dev on the TS head

I think I can leave this as is for a while. Further tweaks will probably come after he has been rigged

It will be great to finally see these two in the same render!

Getting there with Tom Stone

Hair!

Tom Stone now has some nice CG flocking!

Whoops!

Ahhh, thats better!

Im liking the little greyness around the hair line. I was tempted to give him a shock of grey, but im saving that for someone else ;)

UV’s done, so now starting to look dev him

So, with the UV’s done, I can get some key parts fixed. Textures, and the baldness maps for the hair fur

Head almost done

Spent today rebuilding the previous version.

here he is now with a small pose. Need to do the uvs, proper shaders, inside mouth and the all important hair. Then I rig for facial animation AND mocap and away we go!

he is looking a little “young” and fresh faced at the moment. Even boyish.. but once done will be a lot grittier!

Pilot and Turbo Combined

OK, so thats that! Im certain there will be tweaks (good name for a CG movie with Daniel Day lewis as the Pioneering creater of the Blinn Shader… THERE WILL BE TWEAKS!)…

where was I? Oh yeah! Tweaks. As I get deeper and deeper into Mental Ray and its on line community, I am certain materials, shaders and ‘tings will get tweaked, but for now, this is done and its time to move onto some more characters and vehicles.

Turbocopter with Physical Sky Render

I just wanted to see what the Gamma adjusted textures look like in MR Physical sky.

Its ok, but I think Im going to have a play with the materials a little as well as texture in some noise, scratches and wear and tear…. Its a little “too” clean!

Im livin in a box, Im livin in a cardboard box

Well, I need to get a few frames together for one of my key supporters prior to SIGGRAPH. So, I need to get the stuff done today that I cant do in the evenings whilst staying in Watford…. That way all I need to worry about next weekend is the animation for the piece & subsequent rendering. The piece I plan to animate should hopefully demonstrate how I have been using their product.

I still have not gotten around to re-binding AM after all of this weekends tweaks and clean-up… and that is one job I know I can do whilst in Sunny Watford!

Progress

As the post-it note on my desktop says, I still have a way to go on this one….

But Need to post something from today’s endeavours. Mental Ray is just not giving me the results I am after. I doubt very much its Mental Rays fault. As I sit here with a stack of Digital Tutors DVD’s to hit in the next day or two as a MR refresher, I cant help but wonder if there is a quicker and easier render engine I can get to grips with.

Of course, Im certain that the DT discs will break some old bad habits and get me back on the road to MR heaven…. but you know how it is when you just cant get things to work the way you imagine they would??? Well that was me today

Hopefully in the next day or two, all those GI and FG issues that have plagued me today will be a thing of the past. Plus, as I gear up to the the farm up & ready thanks to a very kind offer of some IT hardware support (More on this when I have some branded artwork from them ;)    ), the trial and error rendering wont be quite so painful. However, I dread to think what the electricity bill will be this quarter with all those blades and Dells running…. and thats just for small tests.

Tomorrows task, besides rinse out 3 day old dive gear, is to narrow the threads I painted and add some fabric grunge…..

Further WIP

Ha ha, spot the difference!

Yep… now with the Vizor mouthpeice, which always bothered me as a child. It just kinda hung there off the helmet and face, never really attached to anything….
