more hair


Happy with the hair, now playing with the shader a little. But I am already liking where this is going.
the calibration on my monitor was in need of a long overdue revision, and I am amazed at how far out I was…. And it has of course impacted the work immensely. Just trying to see if Sub Surface scattering of light will be worth the render times or not

OK, so thats that! Im certain there will be tweaks (good name for a CG movie with Daniel Day lewis as the Pioneering creater of the Blinn Shader… THERE WILL BE TWEAKS!)…

where was I? Oh yeah! Tweaks. As I get deeper and deeper into Mental Ray and its on line community, I am certain materials, shaders and ‘tings will get tweaked, but for now, this is done and its time to move onto some more characters and vehicles.

I do like to fiddle…

Mental Ray Physical Sky is great! Even the cloud technique is awesome. But using the cloud stuff with an asset in shot can be a little quirky at times. You get this weird noise around AM. I thought it was just me, until I realised that the video from Gnomon that put me onto this trick suffered the same artifacts.

So, I decided to just render out the sky as a seperate pass…..

Im happy with the overall look now

…for the time being.

I need to swap out the 2K texture maps for the new 4K ones, but I am going to go ahead and skin the uniform now.

I have also done all the UV layout on AM himself (previously only his head and torso had done). With all that done, plus yesterdays hierachy clean up, I now have a hero rig, that can then be used for doll variations as well. So allthough it may not look like I got much done with my week off, I actually managed to get loads done (as well as get my head around Mental Rays Gamma issues for HDRI and Sky renders).
